You start in the sublevel here. A few sliths are nearby, so kill them. Go up the stairs and interrupt the ritual. Kill them and take their stuff. Use the altar and fight a slith avatar for a slith warspear. There are many sliths in this area, and some are warded against spells. Make your attack strategy based on their names (fire-warded means don't use firebolt or fireblast, ice-warded means don't use smite [or lightning-spray, apparently], etc.).
