There are fungi here, but fortunately they don't attack. Explore, and you'll find Komlos, a magical smith. He gives you a quest to hunt down an ogre by the name of Digmaster Grugg. Do so and he'll do work for you.
The best way to access the sublevel is through the ogre caves just north. Digmaster Grugg is easily found, and when he dies, he drops a girdle of might (+2 strength).
