These areas signal the end of chapter 2. Talk to Captain Amero on the mail island. She will give you a quest - to clear out the spiders living to the north. Head to the NW first, and kill the spiders there. The spiders are guarding a body with some minor goods. Head to the northern passage, kill the spiders on the first floor, then go up and kill the rest (including an aranea). Claim your polar fur cloak and other goods, then head back out. Tell Amero of your success, then head on down the rapids.
