You cannot approach Olgai until you have performed the Ritual of Welcoming in Avit.

You cannot cross the bridge to the Shrine Of Crystals until you have recovered a Crystal Soul and are returning it. Thereafter you can cross at will.

There is a hidden village in the northwest that has some graymold salve.

Searching one of the sleeping chambers in the southeast will trigger an encounter with chitrachs. Kill them to gain a blessed studded armor.

In a hidden passage, past some lava is a tomb that contains some vahnatai undead. The waveblade is cursed.

Talk with all the characters here for what information you can get.

Pider will tell you about Gnee. Gnee will give a hint about a key in Avit, if you can convince him you work for the empire. You don't need his hint to find the key.

The first time you enter the council chamber, you must submit to being examined. If you continue to refuse, you lose the game. Once you submit to their examination, you will have completed the quest to Destroy the Mysterious Barriers, and gain 100xp. You will also be given a new quest to Recover Three Crystal Souls. If you found the human spell book in the Ruined River Fort Elohi-Bok will ask you to find evidence of secret dealings with some vahnatai and the humans who stole the Crystal Souls.
After the initial encounter in the council chamger, talk with the leaders here for hints as to how to find the stolen Crystal Souls. When you discover the location of a Crystal Soul, return here for hints and assistance in recovering it.
The viewing crystal on the right shows your passage down the river. The one on the left shows the Vahnatai Fortress held by an opposing vahnatai tribe.
You cannot enter the reward chamber until you have recovered a stolen Crystal soul. Each box is keyed to each of the three Crystal Souls you recover.
You can use the Portal to the Tower of Magi freely to pass back and forth between Avernum and the Vahnatai Lands.
To recover Caffren-Bok, you will need to get the evidence from the Vahnatai Fortress. You will be given the Order for Fort Haledon quest. Go to Fort Haledon, then recover Caffren-Bok from the Ornotha Ziggurat and take him to the Shrine of Crystal Souls.
When you return to Olgai after recovering Caffren-Bok, you will be able to open the first of the treasure boxes which contains a Magery Mind Crystal. You'll also be told to speak with Rentar-Ihrno in Egli, who'll help you fight Garzahd.
To recover Jekknol-Bok, you will need to get the evidence from Fort Dolthar. You will be given the quest to Sneak into Pyrog's Lair. Go to Pyrog's Cave recover Jekknol-Bok and take him to the Shrine of Crystal Souls.
Upon returning to Olgai after recovering Jekknol-Bok, you will be able to open the second box in the treasure room which contains an Immunity Ring. Shrine of Crystal Souls.
To recover Vyvnas-Bok, you need to talk to Erika and Athron. You also need to get the portal code to Angierach from Ostoth. He gives you a key to his room in the Tower of Magi. The portal code is in his dresser. You will also need to get a Phoenix Egg from Rentar-Ihrno. Go to Angierach and kill all the monsters there to get a key to his prison. Use the Phoenix Egg to break the barriers aroun him.
Upon returning to Olgai after recovering Vyvnas-Bok, you will be able to open the third box in the treasure room which contains Boots of Speed.
When you have returned all three of the Crystal Souls, you will now be able to get to the other room which has two spell books: Divine Warrior 3, and Arcane Summon 3.
